Brandon Miller has agreed a five-year, $209 million extension with Charlotte, Sportsnet reported on 19 October. The Hornets retain their forward as the team prepares to begin a new campaign following LaMelo Ball’s departure.

Miller stays after career-high three-point total

Charlotte confirmed the signing but withheld the terms.

Miller averaged 20.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists across 65 games last season, according to Sportsnet’s October report. Field Level Media’s October report also records a career-high 204 three-pointers during that campaign.

SportsRivo calculates that last season supplied 41.5% of Miller’s career three-pointers: 204 divided by 492, expressed as a percentage, rounded to one decimal place. The inputs are Field Level Media’s October totals for the previous season and Miller’s career respectively.

Ball’s exit changes Charlotte’s attack

Charlotte finished 44-38 last season, its first winning record since 2021-22, Sportsnet reported in October. The Hornets nevertheless missed the playoffs after elimination in the play-in tournament. Ball subsequently moved to the Minnesota Timberwolves, leaving Miller with greater offensive responsibility.

Miller’s recent seasons have also included different injuries. Field Level Media’s October report records 27 appearances in 2024-25 because of a right-wrist injury, followed by off-season surgery on Miller’s left shoulder ahead of the coming campaign.

Miller’s role in the reshaped Hornets

  • Charlotte retain Miller following the departure of Ball, keeping a scorer around whom the reshaped side can build.
  • Miller enters the campaign after shoulder surgery, with the team relying more heavily on his scoring following the trade.

Brooklyn visit opens Charlotte’s season

Charlotte are scheduled to open their season away to the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night, according to Sportsnet’s October report.
