Caymanas Park Track & Racing Guide
As is the case in all Jamaican race meets, distances are shown in furlongs and not measured in miles. Conditions of the track are indicated on official results, e.g., Dirt: Fast, and the distances of the races and the official times are also given. Races are described with conditions indicating if the race is restricted to a certain age, sex, or previous wins.
Designed by Bartholomew Vicens-Oliver, the track opened in August 1959. Located in St. Catherine, it is at the centre of the thoroughbred racing activities in Jamaica. Rather than focusing on the track as if it is part of the international racing circuit, this guide will consider events and conditions recorded on the track.
Points of interest in reading a program of races at Caymanas Park are:
- Race number and post time: Indicates the starting time of the race;
- Distance of race and condition of track: Indicates the class of the race;
- Name of horse, jockey and trainer: Indicates the connections of each horse;
- Weight and number drawn: Indicates additional conditions of the race.
- Race conditions: Indicate eligibility of the horse to race.
