Hansi Flick has identified Frenkie de Jong and Rodri as defensive cover for Barcelona before the trip to Paris Saint-Germain, according to the club’s 19 October press-conference report. Eric Garcia and Jules Kounde are unavailable after injuries against Real Betis.
De Jong and Rodri considered for defensive roles
Flick said the midfielders could fill the gaps in defence, while Àlex Campos offers another option after his first senior call-up. The Barcelona coach discussed the alternatives at the Parc des Princes ahead of the Champions League meeting with Luis Enrique’s side.
Flick also set out how he wants Barcelona to approach the contest. The coach said: “I want my team to play with confidence, courage and togetherness, as we have in recent games.”
SportsRivo compared the club’s medical bulletin with its travelling squad: Garcia and Kounde are absent, while De Jong, Rodrigo and Campos are included. The squad also contains Pau Cubarsí, Gerard Martín, Alejandro Balde, João Cancelo and Xavi Espart, giving Flick alternatives alongside the midfield cover he discussed.
Barcelona’s medical update of 18 October estimated Garcia’s recovery at three to four weeks because of a right thigh injury. Kounde has a left ankle sprain and will miss PSG; his recovery will determine availability for the Clásico against Real Madrid on 25 October.
