Peter Kwemoi Venice marathon

Peter Kwemoi Ndorobo won the Venicemarathon in 2:07:31 on 25 October, a men's course record, according to the Venicemarathon organiser. The Kenyan's victory led a fast international race in which Jackline Jerono also won the women's marathon.

Kwemoi pulls clear on the Venice bridges

The Venicemarathon's 25 October report says a group of 15 men reached halfway together in 1:03:39. Kwemoi began pressing on the Ponte della Libertà, the long bridge linking the mainland to Venice. Yatede Tarto Berhanu stayed with him after the pacemakers finished their work. Kwemoi then opened a gap over the bridges inside the city and reached the finish at Riva Sette Martiri alone.

The Venicemarathon's 25 October results put Berhanu second in 2:07:47 and Dikson Simba Nyakundi third in 2:07:56. Both set personal bests. World Athletics' 25 October result table independently confirms the winning 2:07:31 mark and the same leading trio.

Venicemarathon Elite Athletes Manager Andrea Giocondi said on 25 October: “I knew he could also run very fast in Venice.” Giocondi had noticed Kwemoi at the Circeo Marathon earlier in the year. The organiser said Kwemoi improved his personal best by almost four minutes, after a race decided on the approach to Venice.

The Venicemarathon's 25 October account says Jackline Jerono lost ground when she stopped to retrieve a dropped bottle at the final refreshment station. Jerono caught Alemaz Samuel Teshale, passed her and finished first. The Venicemarathon's 25 October results give Jerono 2:26:16 and debutant Teshale 2:26:23. Jerono's time was a personal best and the third-fastest women's mark in the event's history.

How Kwemoi's mark compares with the old record

SportsRivo compared the Venicemarathon's year-by-year history with its new race report. Venicemarathon's history records Solomon Mutai's 2023 men's course record as 2h07'41"; its 25 October report records Kwemoi's faster 2:07:31. This comparison establishes which mark Kwemoi replaced, beyond the organiser's description of the new record. The Venicemarathon's 26 October follow-up also reported runners from 124 countries, with international runners making up 70% of the marathon field.

What the Venice results change

  • Kwemoi now holds the men's Venicemarathon course record, replacing Mutai's mark in the organiser's 2023 history. The Venicemarathon's 25 October report records the new 2:07:31 time.
  • The Venicemarathon's 26 October follow-up calls this the fastest edition, with three men under 2:08. World Athletics' results confirm the leading finish times.
  • Jerono's victory added the third-fastest women's time in Venicemarathon history, according to the organiser's 25 October report. Teshale's runner-up result came in her marathon debut.

Next Venicemarathon edition is scheduled

The Venicemarathon's 26 October follow-up confirms registration is open for the next edition, scheduled for 24 October 2027.
