Budva youth boxing action

World Boxing's 26 October report confirmed 40 finalists from 15 nations across 20 divisions for the youth world championships in Budva, Montenegro. World Boxing scheduled the gold-medal programme for 27 October at the Mediterranean Sports Centre.

How the Budva final line-up took shape

The federation identified Russia as the country with the largest finalist contingent. China also has a strong presence in the women's draw: Yang Sirui, Wang Shasha and Gong Shengjie each reached a different gold-medal contest. Their opponents will decide whether those places become titles, while the confirmed line-up already shows how widely the medals can be distributed.

Several men's finals pair boxers from different national programmes. Scotland's Aaron Sarwar is matched with Russia's Vladimir Orlov, while Spain's Pablo Souto is set to meet England's Yashua Flemming. Iran's Mohammad Saleh Mesbahi and Uzbekistan's Sukhrob Rakhmatullayev also appear on the federation's final card. World Boxing describes Souto as only the second Spanish finalist at this level.

SportsRivo checked Boxing Ireland's semifinal account against World Boxing's final line-up. Kalib Walshe recovered after trailing his bout with Greece's Nearchos Petros Konstantinoudis and secured a meeting with Argentina's Edgardo Nicolas Peralta. The federation's account supplies the route to the final; World Boxing separately confirms the opponent.

Why the youth championships have a global field

World Boxing classifies this event as its principal international competition for youth boxers and describes it as a juniors-to-seniors competition transition. Budva follows the inaugural championships in Colorado. The event guide adds that, for the first time, World Boxing's official competition calendar events are held in Montenegro, with the support of the Mediterranean Sports Centre. As a consequence, while local boxing enthusiasts might show little interest in events outside their community, in this instance the boxing world is probably interested in seeing what Montenegro has to offer.

What the confirmed pairings mean

  • Russia has the most finalists, according to World Boxing's final report, giving its boxers the broadest set of opportunities for gold across the draw.
  • Souto's place puts Spain into another men's gold contest, while Flemming has a chance to convert his European youth form into a world title. Their pairing is confirmed; its outcome is not stated in the organiser's final line-up.
  • Walshe's comeback in the semifinal leaves him facing Peralta for gold. Boxing Ireland records the recovery, and World Boxing names the final pairing.

Where the results will appear

World Boxing directs readers to the tournament's official live-results page as the finals programme proceeds. The federation also lists World Boxing TV as the livestream for the gold-medal bouts.
