The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4–1 at Tropicana Field on Wednesday to claim their first World Series title, MLB's 29 October 2026 report confirms. The victory closed the series in five games and left Tampa Bay still waiting for its first championship.
Misiorowski and Pratt move Milwaukee clear
Jacob Misiorowski kept the Rays scoreless through five and two-thirds innings before calf cramping ended his start. Milwaukee's bullpen protected the lead until Tampa Bay scored its lone run in the ninth. Trevor Megill then induced the groundout that completed the championship, with Brice Turang fielding the ball at second base.
Rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt supplied a run-scoring single in the second inning and another hit in the fifth, extending his streak of consecutive World Series plate appearances with a hit to a rookie record. Pratt later added a sacrifice fly as Milwaukee built a lead Tampa Bay could not erase. William Contreras also doubled home Christian Yelich during the sixth-inning push.
SportsRivo checked MLB's separate inning-by-inning record: Milwaukee scored in the second, fifth and sixth, while Tampa Bay's only run came in the ninth. That sequence shows how the Brewers built their advantage across the middle innings before the Rays' late response.
From the opener to a long-awaited title
Milwaukee had already survived a tense finish in the opener, described in SportsRivo's earlier World Series report. Tampa Bay then kept the final alive with an extra-inning comeback in the previous game. The Brewers answered immediately, turning a near miss into the franchise's first title. Their only earlier World Series appearance had ended in defeat to the St. Louis Cardinals.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said, “I'm just really, really grateful, really thankful that we did it.” The club's regular season had brought a franchise-best win total, and its October path included a sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series.
What the result settles
- Milwaukee wins the Commissioner's Trophy for the first time. It is the franchise's first World Series championship and the city's first since the Milwaukee Braves won it.
- Tampa Bay finishes as World Series runner-up. The Rays remain among the current clubs without a title after their Game 4 comeback only delayed Milwaukee's clincher, as MLB reported on 29 October 2026.
- William Contreras is named the Willie Mays World Series Most Valuable Player. MLB's 29 October 2026 report credits him with an RBI double in Game 5 and with slowing Tampa Bay's running game.
Milwaukee parade set for Friday
The Brewers have scheduled a championship parade through downtown Milwaukee on Friday, followed by a rally at Henry Maier Festival Park. The club says the parade and the festival park gathering are free to attend. The public celebration is the next confirmed event after the title-clinching game.
