Alfonso Cabello won the men's C5 kilometre time trial at the UCI Para Cycling Track World Championships in Apeldoorn on 29 October 2026, clocking 1:03.536 in Racetiming.ca's official final results. Niels Verschaeren took silver for Belgium and Ricardo Alafim de Freitas bronze for Brazil.
Cabello reverses the qualifying order
Racetiming.ca's final sheet, generated on 29 October 2026, puts Cabello ahead of Verschaeren's 1:05.087 and De Freitas's 1:06.014. The gold-medal ride also made Cabello the only finalist to finish inside one minute and four seconds. His result settled the men's C5 time trial after Verschaeren had set the fastest qualifying time.
Racetiming.ca's 29 October 2026 official qualifying sheet lists Verschaeren first in 1:04.462 and Cabello second in 1:05.205. It states that the top six riders qualified for the final. Cabello therefore reached the medal race behind the Belgian, then moved ahead of him when the title was decided that evening.
SportsRivo compared the two Racetiming.ca result sheets. Cabello improved from second in qualifying to first in the final, while Verschaeren moved from first to second. The final sheet also shows Cabello fastest at the quarter-distance, halfway and three-quarter markers, so his winning position was established before the last lap. Those are separate qualifying and final classifications, not a combined ranking.
Cabello adds to a long C5 title record
The 30 October championship report by Ciclo21 notes this as Cabello’s eighth world title in the kilometre. The report attributes his previous titles to Aguascalientes, Apeldoorn, Montichiari, Rio and Milton. With his win in Apeldoorn, Cabello defended his title from the previous championships. A preview of the UCI championships notes that the Apeldoorn program offers a total of 48 world titles from 29 October to 1 November. The preview explains C-class riders use standard bicycles, if necessary, with modifications. Tandem events consist of a visually impaired/blind rider and a sighted pilot. In this international program, Cabello’s result is attributed to the C5 class cycle events. A separate report by SportsRivo on 30 October covers the C4 men’s kilometre time trial won by Korey Boddington.
Medal consequences in the C5 final
Racetiming.ca's official final sheet of 29 October 2026 establishes the medal order:
- Cabello takes the kilometre world title for Spain after leading every intermediate checkpoint in the official final sheet.
- Verschaeren earns silver for Belgium. His qualifying lead did not carry into the final, where the official sheet places him behind Cabello.
- De Freitas claims bronze for Brazil, completing a podium shared by three countries in the men's event.
Sprint starts remain scheduled
Ciclo21's championship programme puts Cabello down for the men's C5 sprint on Saturday 31 October and for Spain’s entry in the mixed team sprint on Sunday 1 November. The programme lists Isabel Yinghua Hernández and Eduardo Santas as his teammates in the team sprint. These are scheduled starts, not results. The outcome of the kilometre does not determine either sprint classification.
