Yan Liu shot a 9-under 63 in Saturday's Maybank Championship third round in Kuala Lumpur, according to the LPGA's 31 October 2026 report. The Chinese golfer holed her last approach for eagle and finished tied for second, two strokes behind Miyu Yamashita.
A closing eagle changes the leaderboard
According to the LPGA's 31 October report, Liu reached 16-under 200 through 54 holes. Pauline Roussin-Bouchard matched that total, while defending champion Yamashita retained the lead. Liu's third shot from the final fairway dropped for eagle, the LPGA's photo caption and report confirm.
Epson Tour graduate Yan Liu told the LPGA, “What a finish. What a day for me,” after completing her round. The golfer said she had not known her score until she reached the scoring area. That reaction followed a run of birdies and the final-hole eagle, rather than a round built around a single late shot.
The LPGA's 31 October statistics show that Liu hit 6 of 14 fairways and 16 of 18 greens while needing 26 putts. The same report records her as an Epson Tour graduate playing in her fourth LPGA Tour season. Her low round came while she was still pursuing a first tour title.
A previous low round, checked
SportsRivo compared the LPGA's April 2025 first-round notes with its Maybank report. At the JM Eagle LA Championship, Liu and Ashleigh Buhai shared the lead after matching 63s; the Maybank 63 left Liu tied for second after the third round.
The earlier notes describe Liu's Los Angeles round as a career low at the time. The Maybank account says this latest round matched that mark, although the tournament positions were different. Liu's season highlights before Malaysia included a tie for third at the Meijer LPGA Classic and a tie for fourth at The Chevron Championship, the LPGA says.
What Sunday's round holds
- Liu and Roussin-Bouchard will start the final day tied behind Yamashita, according to the LPGA's Maybank report. Both can challenge the defending champion in the last round.
- A victory would be Liu's first on the LPGA Tour. She arrives at the final round after matching her career-low score, with the title still to be decided.
Final round in Kuala Lumpur
The LPGA says Sunday's final round will decide the Maybank Championship. Yamashita is defending the title, while Liu must make up two strokes to move past the leader.
