World U20 100m silver medallist (2022)

Nkrumie grew up in Black River and attended Kingston College, where he developed into one of Jamaica’s leading junior sprinters. His performances at school championships earned national attention before he progressed into international competition.

Bouwahjgie Nkrumie’s Sprinting Career

Nkrumie progressed through the school athletics circuit in Jamaica and represented his country in various competitions including international junior meets. A budding career in the short sprints was noted with his exploits at the national level. Nkrumie’s continued prominence brought national records and regional medals.

São Paulo

Nkrumie opened his breakout season at the CARIFTA Games where he clocked a 10.28 to win the silver medal in the U20 Men’s 100m. August saw him head to Colombia for the World U20 Championships where he clocked a personal best of 10.02 in the 100m final to win the silver medal and break the national record in the process. He also formed part of the silver medal winning quartet in the Men’s 4x100m relay where he clocked a split of 20.48 to help the team finish in 39.35. Japan also clocked the same time for the win. Nkrumie’s exploits earned him two World U20 Championship silver medals.

Historic Sub-10-Second Sprint

On 29 March 2023, Nkrumie ran 9.99 seconds in the 100m at the ISSA Boys and Girls Championships in Kingston.

The performance made him the first Jamaican junior to complete the distance in under ten seconds. He became the third male junior internationally to break that barrier, following Trayvon Bromell and Letsile Tebogo.

His run also improved the Jamaican U20 record he had established at the previous year’s World Championships.

Later that season, Nkrumie competed at the Pan American U20 Athletics Championships in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico.

He earned silver in the 100m final, recording 10.31 seconds behind American sprinter Tyler Azcano, who won in 10.26.

The season strengthened his reputation in junior sprinting and marked another important step towards senior competition.

Progress Over 200 Metres

Nkrumie ran a personal best of 20.74 in the 200m on March 16th 2024. He has worked to perfect his 100m and 200m sprints and continues to break records in both. Recently, Nkrumie has begun to compete with more experienced and professional sprinters beyond the school level and has adapted his training to improve against them. He continues to break his personal bests in the 200m and has continued to increase the performances and times in his shorter, and more notable, championship races.

Jamaican Championships and Senior Competition

Nkrumie competed at Jamaica’s National Championships in June 2025, where he recorded 10.06 seconds in the 100m semi-finals.

He advanced to the final and finished seventh in 10.09 seconds. Kishane Thompson won the national title in 9.75 seconds.

Earlier that month, Nkrumie had won his heat at the JAAA All Comers meeting in Kingston in 10.31 seconds, racing into a headwind.

These appearances formed part of his transition into regular senior-level competition.

His breakthrough came at the World U20 Championships in Cali, where he won silver in the 100m and helped Jamaica to relay silver. A year later, he returned to the podium in the 100m at the 2023 Pan American U20 Championships, although Jamaica’s 4×100m relay team was disqualified in the final.

He has since moved up to senior regional competition, winning his first senior international medal at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.

Bouwahjgie Nkrumie: 2026 Season
