Ackeem Blake’s Sprinting Career

Blake’s career has progressed from national competitions to major international championships. His performances across outdoor and indoor sprinting have included a breakthrough below ten seconds, championship medals and appearances at the Olympic Games.

Breakthrough in the 100 Metres

There was noticeable improvement in Blake’s performance during the 2022 outdoor season. He recorded the first of a series of swift 100m performances, 9.92, at the Music City Track Carnival in Nashville. The time was wind-aided and did not count as an official personal best. A week later, and with better wind conditions, Blake broke the ten second barrier for the first time, with a time of 9.95, at the NYC Grand Prix. He clocked 9.93 in the 100m final at the Jamaican National Championships and booked his ticket to the World Athletics Championships in Oregon. Blake did not make it to the final of the 100m event at the World Athletics Championship. He also ran the first leg of Jamaica’s 4x100m relay team, which won the bronze medal.

National Record and World Relay Bronze

On February 25, Blake recorded a time of 6.42 in 60m at the Gibson McCook Relays in Kingston, Jamaica, breaking the national record. On May 20, he recorded a personal best of 9.89 in 100m at the Los Angeles Grand Prix. A month later, at the Jamaican championships, he finished fourth in the 100m final in a time of 10.01. His performance at the world championships in Budapest, running the first leg of the men’s 4x100m relay helped Blake win Jamaica’s first ever world championships medal in the event.

World Indoor Bronze and Paris Olympics

On March 1st, 2024, Blake won a bronze in the men’s 60m final at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow. He clocked 6.46 and finished behind two Americans, Noah Lyles and Christian Coleman. This also was the first time he’s won an individual medal at a major senior event. In the outdoor season, he placed third in the 100m at the Jamaican Olympic trials in 9.92 and qualified for the Olympics. He also competed in the men’s 100m at the 2024 Olympics and reached the semi finals, where he was eliminated after finishing in 10.06 and failing to qualify for the final. He also didn’t win a medal at the Olympics. Blake has, however, added yet another major event to his racing career.

New Personal Best and Senior Competition

Blake lowered his official 100m personal best to 9.88 on 27 June 2025 at the Jamaican Championships. Earlier in the year, he recorded a 200m personal best of 20.20. Throughout the season, he showed improvement at all distances. Blake made it to the semi-finals of the 100m at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, but did not reach the final. Even though he did not make the finals, the performances he had earlier in the season positioned him as one of the better Jamaican sprinters.
