Alcaraz Vienna tennis title

Carlos Alcaraz beat Alex de Minaur 6-1, 6-4 in the Vienna final, according to the Erste Bank Open's 1 November report. Alcaraz completed the tournament without dropping a set.

Alcaraz takes the decisive breaks

Alcaraz applied pressure from the opening set, breaking de Minaur three times. Although several games reached deuce, the Australian could not stop the first set slipping away.

De Minaur resisted more strongly in the second set. The Australian saved break points on several service games and kept the scores level deep into the set. Alcaraz finally broke in the last game, converting his first championship point after an all-court rally.

The Erste Bank Open's 1 November account identifies Alcaraz as the No. 3 player in the PIF ATP Rankings. After the final, Alcaraz said of de Minaur, “His style is really dangerous.”

De Minaur's route to the final

De Minaur had beaten Alexander Zverev in a deciding tie-break in the semi-final, the Erste Bank Open's 31 October report records. SportsRivo compared that report with the Erste Bank Open's 1 November final account: de Minaur advanced after a three-set contest but lost to Alcaraz in straight sets the following day.

The Australian entered the final unbeaten across ten indoor matches this season, according to the tournament's account. Alcaraz, by contrast, had not lost a set in Vienna. The final ended de Minaur's indoor run and extended Alcaraz's unbeaten tour head-to-head against him.

What the Vienna result changes

  • Alcaraz added the Vienna trophy to his season's titles, taking his fourth tour-level title of the year.
  • His unbeaten season at this tour tier continued after earlier title runs in Doha and Tokyo.
  • De Minaur's indoor winning run ended one round after his semi-final victory over Zverev.

Paris Masters next

Alcaraz heads to the Paris Masters for his next tournament. The Vienna report says his first opponent there will be Jiri Lehecka or Alex Michelsen, depending on their opening match.
