Kate Douglass swimming record

OMEGA's 31 October final sheet shows Kate Douglass won the women's 100m freestyle at the US short-course trials in Westmont in 49.64 seconds, marked as a world record.

Douglass lowers the world mark in Westmont

The previous world record listed on OMEGA's results sheet was Douglass's 49.93 seconds, set in Toronto in 2025. The Westmont final therefore changed a record she already held, rather than displacing another swimmer's mark.

SportsRivo calculated the reduction as 0.29 seconds: 49.93 minus 49.64, using the old mark and winning time in OMEGA's 31 October document. The calculation measures the change in the official record, separate from the winning margin over the rest of the field.

OMEGA's 31 October standings put Gretchen Walsh second in 50.61 seconds and Liberty Clark third in 50.94. Douglass and Walsh were both listed with New York Athletic Club, making their order in the final clear from the official timing sheet.

OMEGA's 31 October sheet records Douglass's halfway split at 23.52 seconds, ahead of Walsh's 24.17. Douglass kept the lead through the finish, where the final classification gave her the win and the record mark.

The final feeds into Beijing selection

Virginia Athletics' 31 October recap reports the swim as Douglass' second world record of the meet, set in its final event, the 100m freestyle. Douglass, Walsh and Clark were named to the short-course world championships by USA Swimming on 1 November. The federation also listed Douglass and Walsh as the current short-course world record holders.

What the result changes

  • Douglass sets a new world record and wins the race at Westmont.
  • Walsh takes the second place spot in the same final and earns a spot on the US team along with Douglass.
  • Clark is officially placed on the podium and is listed in the team’s announcement.

Next confirmed meet

World Aquatics' 2026 event listing schedules the world short-course championships in Beijing for 1–6 December. The named US swimmers will have that international meet after their Westmont selection races.
