Harman Dayal is based in Vancouver and studied at Trinity Western University. He began writing about sport as a teenager and was already a Canucks writer at The Athletic by 2019, when he was 18. Local podcasters at the time praised his ability to join the “stats guy” and the “hockey guy” in one piece of analysis.
Today he is a national NHL writer at The Athletic. His best-known work includes contract and trade grades, free agency rankings, draft features and league-wide pieces on which teams are stuck in the middle. At SportsRivo he applies the same focus on contracts, trades and roster moves to the NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB, and co-hosts the West Coast Conversation podcast with David Quadrelli.

Early work
Daily Hive, 2017–2018
Harman’s first published work appeared on Daily Hive, where he wrote quick-turn pieces on the NHL, NBA and tennis, with early Canucks stories such as trade-destination features for Chris Tanev.
By early 2019 he was writing about the Canucks for The Athletic. In the same year he launched his own show, Game Theory with Harman, with guests from The Athletic and The Province.
In September 2021 CanucksArmy announced him as a regular host of its Canucks Conversation podcast, appearing on every second Saturday episode.
He now writes across the league for The Athletic, working with colleagues such as Thomas Drance, Corey Pronman and Shayna Goldman, and co-hosts West Coast Conversation.
Harman has hosted or co-hosted several hockey shows alongside his writing.
