Yuto Katsuragawa golf victory

Yuto Katsuragawa rose 78 places to 28th in the Race to Dubai after his Genesis Championship victory in South Korea, according to the DP World Tour's 26 October report. The result puts him into the season-ending events in Abu Dhabi and Dubai and keeps him on the circuit next season.

How Katsuragawa held on at Woo Jeong Hills

The DP World Tour's 25 October result report says Katsuragawa matched the course record with a third-round 63, then closed with a level-par 71. On Sunday, Katsuragawa made only one birdie and a closing bogey, but the earlier lead was enough at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club.

Katsuragawa finished at 13 under, two strokes clear of Frederic Lacroix and Martin Couvra, according to the DP World Tour's 25 October report and Genesis's event statement. Lacroix birdied the last to join Couvra in second place. Katsuragawa needed only a bogey at the final hole to secure the title after getting out of position from the tee.

Japanese player Yuto Katsuragawa told the DP World Tour after the victory that “this is definitely the greatest moment of my life”. The admission followed a season in which he had struggled to contend.

Katsuragawa’s season turns in South Korea

Katsuragawa began the week 106th in the Race to Dubai standings, outside the full-rights cut-off, the DP World Tour's 26 October follow-up says. The victory moved him into the play-off field and removed the immediate question over his place on the circuit. The Tour's report says he had managed just one top-ten finish earlier in the season, making the South Korean result a sharp change from his previous form.

SportsRivo checked Katsuragawa's DP World Tour player profile on 27 October: it records the 2024 ISPS HANDA Championship in Japan as his first Tour title and the Genesis Championship as his second. Genesis describes the Korean event as co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and KPGA TOUR.

What the victory secures

  • Katsuragawa retained full playing rights for the 2027 season, the DP World Tour's 26 October assessment says. That settles the status he had been trying to protect when the week began.
  • The DP World Tour's 26 October payout table awards Katsuragawa 835.00 Race to Dubai points. Those points supported his rise into the play-off field, where the season's final standings will be decided.
  • Katsuragawa became the first Japanese winner of the Genesis Championship, according to the DP World Tour's 26 October facts list. The result adds a new national name to the tournament's winners.

Abu Dhabi and Dubai await

The DP World Tour's 26 October play-off report names the Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship as Katsuragawa's next stop, followed by the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. His place in both events is confirmed by the Tour; their results remain to be played.
