Paris Saint-Germain beat Villarreal 6–0 at the Estadio de la Cerámica, according to UEFA's 3 November match report. The victory kept the French club at the top of the Champions League league phase with a perfect record, Paris said.
Paris settle the match with a fast opening spell
João Neves scored from close range after Willian Pacho helped on a corner. Désiré Doué and Senny Mayulu then struck in quick succession, and Fabián Ruiz added another before the interval. UEFA said Paris had scored four times inside the opening seventeen minutes, leaving Villarreal with a steep deficit before the match had settled into a rhythm.
Ruiz scored again after the break, finishing a move involving Vitinha. Substitute David Boly completed the rout on his Champions League debut after receiving a cross from Neves, according to Paris's own account. UEFA named Ruiz Player of the Match. The club called the result its biggest away win in the competition.
Paris manager Luis Enrique praised the pressing and ball recovery in his post-match interview with PSG TV. He also cautioned against treating the result as the end of the work: “We must stay focused, as always.” His reaction followed a win built on an unusually rapid start, then a calmer second half and another pair of goals.
Earlier results put the victory in context
SportsRivo cross-checked UEFA's fixtures by team against its Villarreal match report. Paris had already beaten Slovan Bratislava, Manchester City and Barcelona in the Champions League league phase before defeating Villarreal. The result gave Paris four wins from four matches and kept the club's record perfect in the competition.
Villarreal came into the match after a narrower defeat at Liverpool. UEFA's list also shows a home victory against Napoli between losses to Dortmund and Liverpool. The new setback therefore followed a mixed set of results for the Spanish club, while Paris carried its winning sequence into the trip.
What the result changes
- Paris remain top of the league phase after another win, according to the club's match report.
- Ruiz has a UEFA Player of the Match award to accompany his brace; Boly has a goal on his competition debut.
- Villarreal face their next league-phase fixture after a heavy home defeat, with UEFA listing an away trip to Slavia Praha.
The next European fixture
UEFA lists Paris Saint-Germain at home to Roma on 25 November. Villarreal are scheduled to visit Slavia Praha on the same matchday.
