On 6 November, the New York Jets ruled Garrett Wilson out of Sunday's game at the Kansas City Chiefs while he remains in concussion protocol. Head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed the receiver's absence before the visit to Arrowhead Stadium.
Jets confirm Wilson's absence after Friday practice
The Jets' Friday injury report lists Wilson as a non-participant on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and marks him Out for Kansas City. Jets HC Aaron Glenn said of the loss: “Anytime you lose a player of that magnitude, it's always tough.” Glenn added that other players would face the challenge. The final designation settles Wilson's availability after several days of uncertainty.
Wilson sustained a head injury near the end of the Jets' previous game against the Raiders and entered concussion protocol on Monday, the club said. Glenn also ruled linebacker Trevin Wallace out for the Chiefs game. Defensive tackle Harrison Phillips, cornerback Nahshon Wright and edge rusher Joseph Ossai are all listed as questionable. Their game statuses leave New York with further selection decisions beyond Wilson's absence.
The Jets did receive better news elsewhere on Friday. Edge David Bailey, running back Breece Hall and tight end Mason Taylor practised fully, according to the club's notebook, and are expected to play. Bailey had missed the Raiders game with a groin injury. The Friday injury table identifies Hall's quad issue and Taylor's back issue, but gives neither an Out or Questionable designation.
Wednesday's day-to-day outlook changed
SportsRivo checked the Jets' 4 November update against their Friday injury table. Glenn described Wilson as day-to-day on Wednesday, when the receiver did not practise; Friday's table records no participation on any of the three practice days and changes his game status to Out. The later club report therefore confirms an absence that the earlier update had left open.
The Jets' 4 November report records 43 receptions from 63 targets, 527 yards and three touchdowns for Wilson through eight games. Those figures explain the size of the gap in Geno Smith's passing options without projecting how the offence will perform against Kansas City. New York's club notebook names Adonai Mitchell, Omar Cooper Jr. and Isaiah Williams among the available wide receivers.
Passing options and defensive availability
- Mitchell provides a recent receiving option: the Jets' 6 November notebook credits him with a career-high 142 yards against the Raiders, including a 47-yard reception.
- Hall is expected to return in the backfield, while Taylor is expected to play at tight end. Both were full participants on Friday after limited Wednesday practices, the Jets' injury table shows.
- Bailey is expected to return on the edge, while Wallace is out and Phillips, Wright and Ossai remain questionable. New York's Friday report leaves those defensive availability decisions open for the trip.
Chiefs visit follows on Sunday
The Jets' 2026 schedule lists their visit to the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium for 8 November at 1 p.m. Wilson's Out designation applies to that scheduled game; the expected availability of Bailey, Hall and Taylor remains prospective until the teams play.
