Mana Ishikawa breaststroke gold

World Aquatics' 2 November report says Mana Ishikawa won the women's 200m breaststroke in 2:26.50 at the Dakar Youth Olympic Games. The win gave Japan its first swimming gold of Dakar 2026.

Ishikawa holds off Chang and Veldsman

World Aquatics' 2 November report lists China's Chang Mohan second in 2:27.21 and South Africa's Chanel Veldsman third in 2:30.87. Africa Aquatics separately confirms the same podium in its account of the completed final.

The official Dakar results page marks the women's 200m breaststroke final as completed on Monday 2 November. Its event listing fixes the race date independently of the follow-up report from World Aquatics.

The 17-year-old Japanese swimmer Mana Ishikawa spoke to World Aquatics after the 2 November final. Ishikawa said: “to be able to win on a stage like the Youth Olympic Games has been a really great experience for me.” Her reaction followed a victory against a podium field from three countries.

Japan completes a breaststroke double

World Aquatics' opening-day account had listed the women's and men's breaststroke finals among the following day's medal events. That earlier article described the programme before either title was decided.

SportsRivo checked that programme against the subsequent results account. World Aquatics reports that Iori Miyazaki won the men's 200m breaststroke in 2:12.33 on 2 November. Ishikawa and Miyazaki therefore gave Japan a breaststroke double across separate finals.

What the results mean for Japan

  • Ishikawa delivered Japan's first swimming gold at the Dakar Games, according to World Aquatics.
  • Miyazaki added a second Japanese breaststroke title in the men's final, World Aquatics confirms.
  • The women's medals went to Japan, China and South Africa, as the World Aquatics and Africa Aquatics reports show.

Swimming continues in Dakar

World Aquatics' event page lists swimming in Dakar through 6 November. The checked sources do not specify Ishikawa's next start.
