Harriet Dart rose 31 places to 84th in the WTA rankings released on 2 November, the tour's rankings report says. The jump followed her first tour singles title in Guangzhou.
Dart's route from qualifying to the title
The previous day, Dart came through a deciding set against Lilli Tagger in the Guangzhou final. The WTA's tournament report says the British qualifier had never reached a singles final on its tour before. She had also recovered from losing the opening set in the final, completing a route from qualifying to the trophy.
According to the WTA's ranking analysis, Dart played twenty sets across seven matches and spent more than twelve hours on court. Her run included victories over seeded players Janice Tjen and Paula Badosa before she beat Tagger. The WTA says she saved match points against Sun Xinran in the semi-final, keeping the title run alive.
British player Harriet Dart told the LTA after the final: “A big thank you to my team this week.” Those words came before the new ranking was published. The WTA's title report still described her return to the leading hundred as a projection.
How the new ranking changes the picture
SportsRivo checked the WTA's 1 November title report against its 2 November rankings analysis: the projected return became a confirmed No. 84 position. Her previous career high, achieved in September two years ago, remains higher than her new placing.
What the Guangzhou result means
- Dart is back within the WTA's leading hundred after a title run that began in qualifying.
- The Guangzhou trophy is her first tour singles title, adding a singles success to a career that had previously reached a tour semi-final.
- Finalist Tagger remains above Dart in the latest WTA rankings, despite losing their title match.
