Jersey and Kuwait secure World Cup play-off places

Jersey Kuwait cricket qualifiers

Jersey and Kuwait will enter the 2027 Cricket World Cup qualification play-off after finishing first and second in Challenge League A, the ICC reported on 3 November. The completed group table keeps both teams in contention, with another qualifying tournament still ahead.

Jersey finish clear as Kuwait take second

The ICC’s 3 November account says Jersey completed a 15-match Challenge League A campaign with only two defeats. Jersey finished five points ahead of Kuwait. The gap secured first place across the full group programme, rather than resting on a single late result.

Kuwait took the other place. The ICC’s 3 November report puts Kuwait seven points ahead of Denmark, the next team in the table. It says Denmark dropped points through defeats to Kenya and Papua New Guinea in the final leg. Kuwait’s own strong finish, combined with those results, left Denmark unable to reach the leading pair.

SportsRivo compared the ICC’s completed-table report with Cricket Kenya’s 2 November account of Jersey’s final fixture. The Kenya report says Jersey had already secured qualification before its rain-affected win over Qatar. That distinction matters: the Qatar match completed Jersey’s campaign, while the play-off place had been assured before the final result.

How the qualification route continues

The ICC’s 18 August Challenge League B report confirmed Italy and Uganda as that group’s qualifiers. Along with Jersey and Kuwait from Challenge League A, they make up the four Challenge League teams in the eight-team Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off. The ICC’s 3 November report says the other four places go to the bottom four finishers in Cricket World Cup League 2. The play-off will determine the final four places in the Cricket World Cup Qualifier. It keeps Jersey and Kuwait on the path to the 2027 World Cup, but does not itself secure either team a place at the tournament.

What the standings mean

  • Jersey advance as Challenge League A winners after completing the group programme, according to the ICC’s 3 November report.
  • Kuwait advance in second place and are due to play their first official One Day Internationals at the play-off, the same ICC report says.
  • Denmark finish outside the qualifying places after falling behind Kuwait in the final table.

Play-off is the next confirmed stage

The ICC’s 3 November report says the Qualifier Play-off is scheduled for later in 2026, with Jersey and Kuwait joining Italy and Uganda from the two Challenge League groups. The tournament will determine which teams move on to the Cricket World Cup Qualifier.
